Food insecurity across our region remains a critical issue, especially in the wake of COVID-19. This April 11th – 18th, The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Sara & Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Week will bring together 60+ community partners and thousands of participants across DC, MD, and Northern VA to meet this growing need. For a full list of Good Deeds Week programs, Click HERE.
This year, JSSA will be hosting three virtual activities that we hope you and your family will take part in during the week.
Emergency Food Boxes for Meals on Wheels Clients
Help JSSA create emergency food boxes filled with non-perishable supplies for our Meals on Wheels clients. These boxes will be a lifeline for homebound seniors in our community. We are collecting the following individually wrapped, Kosher food items to include in the boxes.
Suggested Kosher Items:
- Unrefrigerated Milk Boxes
- Nutrigrain Bars
- Motts Applesauce
- Snyders Pretzels
- Small boxes of Cheerios
- Sun-Maid Raisins (small boxes)
- Quaker Plain Oatmeal Packets
- Sunkist White Albacore Tuna Pouches
Have a Great Day Project
Help JSSA brighten the day of homebound seniors in our community by making “Have a great day” cards as a family. Your thoughtful cards will be distributed with emergency food boxes to our Meals on Wheels clients as well as our Holocaust survivors. Please do not use stickers, glue, glitter, or anything that could fall off the card for safety purposes.
New Book Drive for Elementary & Middle School Children
With most libraries being closed due to the pandemic, many children across the region do not have access to books to read. JSSA is collecting NEW books for elementary and middle school-aged children in Montgomery and Fairfax Counties. JSSA will distribute the books to students participating in our school-based mental health programs.
All items can be dropped off between Monday, April 12 – Friday, April 16,
from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at the following JSSA offices.
JSSA’s Fallsgrove Office (back entrance)
200 Wood Hill Road, Rockville, MD 20850
Or
JSSA’s Montrose Office
